HPC sandbox
To give as many people as possible access to HPC, and to increase the skills of new users, computing time is also offered on a so-called "sandbox" part of the national resources.
The plan is for everyone affiliated with Danish universities to be able to access the various national HPC resources. The aim is to provide access to test runs, student projects, projects where you are preparing a major application for computing time and also access to computing time in connection with bachelor's and master's thesis projects and to teaching classes on a smaller scale. In this way, more people have the opportunity to get acquainted with HPC and gain an understanding of how it can be used in research. All to develop the HPC skills of potential users.
What should your application contain?
- Who should have access? (Name and position, e.g. master student, PhD, assistant professor, professor, etc.)
- Where is the applicant from? (University and Department/Division)
- Which type of HPC do you want access to? (Type 1-5)
- How much CPU/GPU time is needed? (It can be CPU core hours or GPU core hours. If in doubt, contact your local Front Office who can help clarify this.)
- How much disk space do you need (in MB)? (Ask your local Front Office if in doubt).
- A brief description of the project.
In total, the application must not exceed 750 characters including spaces.
How will my application be processed?
There will often be week-to-week processing of compute time requests on the "sandbox", so if you are interested, just write your application right away. It is possible to get help writing your application from the Front-Office at your university.
What resources are in the HPC Sandbox?
In the Danish national HPC resources, 5% is reserved on all facilities that can be used as a "sandbox" and can therefore be allocated for short-term projects, tests, student projects, one-off projects and the like.
How are the remaining resources allocated?
<45% of the resources are allocated to national applications and peer review. 50% is allocated to the eight (8) Danish universities and the distribution between them is set according to the annual call for resources and is estimated for each university individually.
