Strategy

DeiC works continuously to implement the overall strategy for national research infrastructure.

In September 2024, DeiC's Board of Directors adopted a number of strategic benchmarks for DeiC's development in the period 2025-2030. The benchmarks build on and replace the previous strategies from 2019 onwards. The milestones will be implemented in a roadmap per milestone for the period and in specific sub-goals and actions on an annual basis.

In January 2019, the Ministry of Higher Education and Science published "Strategy for National Cooperation on Digital Research Infrastructure". The strategy was prepared by a working group consisting of representatives from the universities and the Ministry. The strategy formed the framework for DeiC's activities until 2025 and remains the fundamental basis for DeiC.

Vision

Researchers at Danish universities have access to a digital research infrastructure that enables research and education at a high international level.

Mission

The Danish e-Infrastructure Consortium (DeiC) is tasked with developing and coordinating collaboration on digital research infrastructure between universities.

Strategic benchmarks

Benchmark 1: Security

In the near future, DeiC must establish a broader perspective on the security of the national e-infrastructure. This includes establishing a new organizational structure for DKCERT, where security reports directly to the Director.

Benchmark 2: Security

In the near future, DeiC must clarify the possibilities for establishing a virtual Security Analysis Center that can be included in the universities' preparedness. The work must be done in close collaboration with the Committee of University Directors and other relevant parties at the universities.

Benchmark 3: Data management

During the strategy period, DeiC must work to ensure continued close integration with European developments, including with a shorter time horizon ensuring close follow-up and clarification of what an EOSC node is, and clarify the possibility of Danish participation in wave 2 of establishing national nodes.

Benchmark 4: Data management

The Board agreed that ideas on long-term preservation should be developed. The work should be carried out by the Follow-up Group for the National Strategy for Data Management based on FAIR. The advisory group is encouraged to deliver a memo within a year. Within two years, DeiC must therefore follow the development of a national infrastructure for long-term preservation with the expectation that a decision basis for a solution from the Follow-up Group will be available within the period.

Benchmark 5: HPC+

During the strategy period, DeiC must ensure continued close integration with European developments in the HPC+ area.
Including bidding for the establishment of a platform-independent software development center in collaboration with our European partners.

Benchmark 6: Quantum activities

Within the national strategy, DeiC will actively follow developments in quantum computing and algorithms and support the national development and future application in the field.

Benchmark 7: Cross-cutting

In the near future, DeiC will initiate a dialogue with universities on a national collaboration on identity management, ensuring a common approach in line with European developments.

Benchmark  8: Cross-cutting

During the strategy period, DeiC will ensure that the Danish e-infrastructure can continue to handle new challenges in terms of data volume and sensitivity.

Benchmark  9: Cross-cutting

During the strategy period, DeiC must investigate concrete opportunities for establishing a common national data center with a view to economy, sustainability and security.

Benchmark  10: Cross-cutting

In the near future, DeiC must support the user experience of the e-infrastructure landscape by making the opportunities for use and competence development visible. This includes providing support for the preparation of the applications for European facilities.

Benchmark 11: Research Network

During the strategy period, DeiC must actively follow European developments in the network and service area, including specifically ensuring that Denmark is ready to implement the result of the EuroHPC Hypercon tender and continue to ensure synergy with the Nordic development

Benchmark 12: Research Network

During the strategy period, DeiC must ensure the robustness of the Research Network in relation to both technological and security developments, including ensuring flexibility and agility through the use of open standards, software and protocols.

Principles for DeiC

  • Researchers in all main areas must have access to digital infrastructure on transparent terms.
  • There must be a clear and distinct division of roles and work between activities at the national and institutional levels.
  • Investments in costly digital infrastructure for research must be coordinated, utilized and operated effectively.
  • A long-term and flexible collaboration with a strong international anchoring must be established.
  • Financial stability is needed to ensure continuous modernization of technology and ongoing competence development.
