DeiC sends students to HPC summer school in Finland
DeiC offers financial support for one student per university to attend the LUMI/CSC Summer School 2026 in Finland.
The LUMI/CSC Summer School brings together students and researchers in all branches of scientific computing from around the world. The school offers lectures and hands-on training in parallel programming, code optimization and other skills needed to develop scientific software for supercomputers.
To support the development of future skills in supercomputing software development, DeiC is again this year offering each of the Danish universities the opportunity to send a student to the summer school with financial support.
The summer school will take place June 23 to July 2, 2026 at Hotelli Nuuksio, Espoo, Finland.
The students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the following:
- Programming at supercomputer scale using message-passing interface (MPI)
- Using threading (OpenMP) for programming CPU nodes
- Programming GPUs with HIP/CUDA and OpenMP
- Hybrid parallel programming combining MPI with OpenMP and HIP/CUDA (multi-GPU programming)
- Principles of efficient parallel input/output in supercomputers
- Applying learned concepts in HPC and AI applications
In addition to the academic program, the summer school offers a number of social activities and great opportunities to network with other students from across Europe.
The conditions for financial support are as follows:
- Each university can select one student to participate. As CSC also has its own selection process, DeiC cannot guarantee that the student selected by the university will be admitted to the summer school.
- The student/university is responsible for handling all practical matters related to participation, including registration and travel.
- DeiC covers the participation fee of EUR 2,299 (which includes accommodation and meals during the summer school) and documented travel expenses, with a total maximum expense of DKK 25,000 per participant. Any additional expenses, including any per diems, must be paid by the university.
- After the summer school, the university will send an invoice to DeiC for the documented amount.
- The name and contact details of the student, supervisor (if applicable) and an administrative contact person must be sent to DeiC before the summer school takes place, but after the final selection from the summer school.
- The student and supervisor/university commit to making DeiC visible in communication about the participation, including on social media like LinkedIn. The student and supervisor/university also commit to participate in a follow-up article on deic.dk, where experiences from the summer school are shared.
- Further practical information regarding invoicing and communication will be sent to the student and contact person before the summer school.
Note: the registration deadline is May 1, 2026
Coordination is done through each university's HPC front office.
