The opportunity

DeiC is looking for 2 professionals in Quantum computing/HPC simulations of Quantum Computing infrastructures. In this role within the QC/HPC team, these persons will be responsible for supporting and providing consultancy services to universities and industry customers in Denmark.

We are looking for young researchers with a PhD, postdocs or specialists background in QC to join DeiC and assist the DeiC team with the deployment and support of QC and QC-like systems. Our ideal candidates have experience within an QC or HPC simulator environments however, we are open to considering profiles with no prior QC experience, but with a very strong HPC background.

You are a curious and passionate person, keen to learn and improve the design and usability of the solutions. You like to be challenged and be asked to take the lead in demanding conditions. You will have a high impact on which solutions fit for the situation, since a high degree of customization is possible within the specific domain’s limits. You will be offered time to do research (up to 50%) in Quantum Computing at the universities associated with DeiC.

Role and responsibilities

  • Support the most powerful quantum computers and HPC simulators across Denmark
  • Integration and implementation services to build large QC cloud solutions; analyze solution components, understand systems integration challenges
  • Testing and/or evaluating system components, prototyping features, and collaborating with solutions architects to define architectural requirements for QC access
  • Performance tuning and testing of systems
  • Operational support, troubleshooting and optimization activities
  • Work on diagnostic and debugging of sophisticated QC issues, proposal of workarounds when applicable
  • Identify technology gaps in current components that must be resolved to reach future performance targets and functionality requirements
  • Escalation within support organization when needed
  • Knowledge transfer to the local QC team and customers

Research opportunities

Quantum computing is a new field and these positions provide opportunities for the candidates to continue their research in QC at university level. Required skills and experience

  • Degree in Computer Science/related subject
  • Good proficiency in QC/HPC
  • Good knowledge of server hardware
  • Scripting skills
  • Proven networking and security concepts
  • Proactive and not afraid to take charge
  • Interested in working in an internationally oriented environment
  • Good interpersonal skills and integrity to interact directly with customer sites contacts, project managers and technical colleagues, and other key partners

Desirable skills and experience

  • Virtualization platforms (OpenStack or plain KVM)
  • Storage platforms (Ceph)
  • Containerization (Kubernetis, Docker, Podman (or similar))
  • Configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet)
  • Code control (GIT)
  • Monitoring (Icinga, Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Workload managers (PBSpro, Slurm)
  • Deep knowledge in HPC cluster environment and ecosystem
  • Relevant industry experience

Salary and appointment terms

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) or other relevant agreement.

The position is for 3 years.

Location is DeiC offices in Aarhus, Copenhagen or Odense and at one of 8 universities in Denmark of own preference (research time).

DeiC develops and coordinates collaboration on digital research infrastructure between universities with the aim of providing researchers with access to a digital research infrastructure enabling research and education at an international level.
